Lawrenceburg to fund fully trained school resource officers and expand Ivy Tech partnerships, mayor says

Mayor Kelly Millan said Lawrenceburg will strengthen school safety and workforce education through local partnerships announced in her 2026 State of the City address.

Beginning in 2026, Millan said the Lawrenceburg Police Department partnered with Lawrenceburg Community Schools and the Greendale Redevelopment Commission to fund school resource officers and ensure each SRO is a fully trained police officer upon completion of the Indiana Police Academy.

“Beginning in 2026, the Lawrenceburg Police Department partnered with Lawrenceburg Community Schools and the Greendale Redevelopment Commission to not only fund our school resource officers, but also ensure that all the SROs are fully trained police officers upon completion of the Indiana Police Academy,” Millan said.

Millan also highlighted ongoing support for local education through the community foundation’s scholarship programs and dual-credit opportunities that allow students to earn college credits in high school. She singled out Ivy Tech Community College and its chancellor, Mark Graver, noting prior collaboration on a scholarship program to help adults pursue degrees, commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) and other career-oriented coursework.

“We hope to continue making progress towards updates to the Ivy Tech’s health programs and facilities,” Millan said, signaling continued emphasis on postsecondary training tied to local workforce needs.

The mayor framed these education and training initiatives as part of a three-pillared strategy—economic development, education and quality of life—intended to prepare residents for jobs and support local employers.
