Board sets provisional appointment process after Trustee Cho's resignation

Superintendent Presta updated the board that Trustee Cho provided verbal notice of intent to resign at the Dec. 16 meeting and formally notified the county superintendent on Jan. 12. The superintendent recommended the district post the vacancy immediately, set an application deadline of Friday, Feb. 13, verify applicant qualifications (age 18, resident of the district, registered voter, not a district employee), invite eligible applicants to interview and conduct interviews in open session during the March 7 board meeting so the board can appoint a provisional trustee that same evening.

Trustees volunteered to meet with applicants during the application window to offer prospective candidates an opportunity to learn about the role; the superintendent said she would share the application form with trustees in the following days and solicit feedback. Trustees discussed logistics to ensure meetings with board members do not violate open-meeting rules (no more than two board members meeting together with applicants prior to public interviews). No formal appointment was made at the meeting; trustees provided direction to proceed with advertising the vacancy and the timeline recommended by the superintendent.
