Central Virginia Partnership for Economic Development (CVPED) representatives told the Madison County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 12 that regional marketing and site‑readiness work benefits local recruitment and retention of businesses and requested a modest increase in county membership support for FY27.
"This year, we are requesting an increase from 62 to 74¢ per capita for a request of $10,347 for Madison County," said Catherine Delaney, CVPED talent director, who said the organization shares state leads and pays for databases and targeted outreach that smaller localities could not afford on their own. CVPED noted it is implementing a $224,000 Go Virginia wine promotion grant and previously led a $100,000 planning grant.
Why it matters: CVPED said the regional approach allows Madison to participate more effectively in site marketing and in-state business recruitment than the county could on its own. The organization emphasized that funding supports program work rather than staff salary increases and that increases are being phased in across member localities.
Board follow-up: Supervisors asked how the added funds would be used; CVPED said most spending is for project work, site selectors and targeted outreach rather than print advertising. The board did not vote on the request during the workshop; staff will include it in budget deliberations.
Ending: CVPED representatives said they will continue to work with the county on site readiness and other economic development initiatives, and invited staff to use their marketing materials and databases as part of regional recruitment efforts.
