Library wins mayoral recommendation for 25% books budget increase; part‑time payroll also rises

Library staff reported Feb. 12 that the mayor recommended the library’s request for a 25% increase in the books budget, raising the allocation from about $224,000 toward roughly $323,000 — an increase of approximately $64,625. Staff also noted a 15% increase in the part‑time budget, roughly $100,000.

Sherrell told the board that the capital budget information was not yet available but that the mayor’s recommendation on the operating request appeared to be accepted. Board members were reminded that the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET) will review the operating budget on March 3 at 6:30 p.m. and asked staff to circulate links and details for that review.

Board members emphasized the importance of supporting downloadable collections and other high‑demand items. Staff said they would follow up with any capital budget updates and provide more detail on part‑time staffing changes at the March meeting.

No formal vote was taken on the budget at the Feb. 12 meeting; the item remains subject to the BET review and final city approval.
