The Springettsbury Township Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution 2024‑27, authorizing disposal of paper records that staff identified as eligible for destruction. The motion to adopt the resolution was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Separately, the board discussed a previously tabled gift agreement to transfer archaeological artifacts (from Camp Security digs) to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). Staff and a PHMC-affiliated speaker explained the standard transfer form grants permanent ownership to PHMC, but said municipalities commonly borrow artifacts under a separate loan agreement that requires security, environmental and display standards. Several supervisors expressed concern the standard gift form would give the commission unrestricted disposal authority and asked township solicitor/staff to contact PHMC to explore negotiated language or a municipal-specific agreement that would preserve loan or display rights. A volunteer historian recounted visiting the State Museum and emphasized the importance of bringing artifacts back to the local community.
The board also acknowledged receipt of SEK’s 2022 financial statements for the period ending 12/31/2022.
Next steps: Township solicitor/staff to contact PHMC to seek clarifying language or loan/arrangement options; staff to proceed with records disposition consistent with the adopted resolution.
