Taos school board completes executive session, unanimously approves superintendent midyear evaluation

The Taos Municipal Schools Board of Education met in executive session on Jan. 23 under Section 10-15-1(H)(2) of the New Mexico Open Meetings Act to discuss limited personnel matters and the superintendent’s midyear evaluation. The board entered executive session at 5:15 p.m., reconvened at 10:26 p.m., and then voted to approve the evaluation.

The chair stated the board had met in executive session for the sole purpose of discussing and preparing the superintendent’s midyear evaluation. After the closed-session work, Board Member [unnamed mover] moved to approve the superintendent’s midyear evaluation as completed in executive session; Board Member King seconded the motion. A subsequent roll-call vote recorded 'Yes' from every member present and the evaluation was approved.

The chair praised the board’s diligence in performing the evaluation and said the board intended the document to support the superintendent’s continued growth and leadership of the district. No personnel details were disclosed in the public meeting consistent with the Open Meetings Act authorization for closed deliberations on personnel matters.

The board then returned to business, noted upcoming meeting dates and briefly discussed drafting a letter to the governor supporting several legislative priorities the vice president highlighted.
