The Burbank Animal Shelter presented fall‑quarter and annual statistics showing sustained adoption and reunification activity.
Administrative analyst (presenter identified as Lisa Rojo during remarks) reported 331 intakes of dogs and cats from October through December, 275 adoptions in that quarter and 56 returns to owners; staff also noted 68 new kittens entered the kitten foster program and 70 kittens were adopted from that program. For the full year 2025, Rojo reported 1,517 intakes, 1,008 adoptions, 260 reunions with owners, and a 91.4% live‑release rate.
Rojo described adoption promotions (including a $0.01 per‑pound or $1 promotional day) and foster and volunteer efforts that supported placements. Board members asked about youth volunteer opportunities; Rojo and department staff described existing partnerships with CREST youth employment and school‑based outreach (tours and presentations), plus Scout Eagle projects and other volunteer projects that have supported shelter facilities and education.
The board praised the shelter’s operations and discussed outreach models that use in‑shelter adoption fairs and selective off‑site events to increase exposure for longer‑term animals. Staff said they will continue to use a mix of in‑shelter events and targeted off‑site appearances as operationally feasible.
The presentation also included broader department metrics — forestry, arts programming, and event summaries — but the shelter report focused on adoptions, reunions, foster program activity and volunteer engagement as indicators of program success.
