A coalition of parents, booster club officers and students asked the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees on Feb. 13 to order a formal personnel review into the leadership of the district’s show-choir program.
Nicole Logan, president of the Perfect Harmony Booster Club, told the board she and other families are “seriously concerned regarding the leadership, decision‑making, and conduct of Mr. Brush” and requested a review by the district’s director of human resources. Logan said families have experienced late or incomplete communications about rehearsals and grading, unclear supervision after evening rehearsals, and conduct that has left students distressed.
Other parents gave specific examples. Tamara Stallings said her daughter had frequently returned home in tears and described what she called a decline in morale under current leadership; Frank, a booster club parliamentarian, said families were concerned that performers would enter competitions without completed costumes or full run-throughs. A father who identified himself as Robert E. Lee III described being told his daughter should miss an academic class for a rehearsal and said his in-person outreach to the director resulted in an angry response.
Several speakers asked the board to clarify policy regarding pulling students from academic classes for rehearsals and to reaffirm parent involvement in decisions that affect academic instruction. Multiple parents requested a clearer process for booster‑director communication and greater district oversight of rehearsal safety and professional boundaries.
Board response: the board acknowledged the comments and asked staff to follow up. At least one trustee specifically requested that staff return with clarification of district policy and a staff-led review of the concerns raised.
What the record shows: dozens of families and booster representatives spoke at the public‑comment period between SEG 2407 and SEG 2770; speakers repeatedly called for administrative review and clearer communication. The board did not announce a specific personnel action on the record that night and instead directed staff to investigate and report back.
Next steps: staff follow-up was requested by the board; the booster group asked the district’s human resources office for a formal review of Mr. Brush’s conduct and communication practices.
