The South Weber City Planning Commission voted to recommend that the city council approve a rezoning for a parcel at approximately 898 East 7240 South from agricultural to RLM and RM, while residents used the public hearing to press officials to reconsider a proposed north–south connector alignment with UDOT that they said would create unsafe conditions at a nearby blind curve.
Staff framed the agenda item as a rezoning action only; if the council approves the change, subsequent steps such as preliminary platting, infrastructure design and specific site engineering will follow separate reviews. Commissioner discussion emphasized the limited scope of the hearing: zoning change rather than final design.
Residents at the public hearing urged the commission to push back on UDOT and to require additional study. Natalie Browning (926 E 7240 S) told the commission the proposed connector would be "a ticking time bomb for a disaster," describing several near-misses from her observations at the curve and arguing the road alignment would reduce sight lines and raise safety risks for children walking to school. Barbara Shoop described waiting to cross the arterial for a school bus and said the intersection was already dangerous.
Commissioner Speaker 13 moved to recommend approval of the rezone request for the property at roughly 898 E 7240 S; Speaker 9 seconded. The motion passed and will be forwarded to the city council for final action. Commissioners and staff recorded a clear on-the-record record of resident safety concerns and noted that detailed road and intersection design (including any UDOT coordination) will be addressed in the later preliminary-plat and engineering review stages.
Next steps: the recommendation moves to the South Weber City Council. Residents were encouraged by planning commissioners to attend council meetings and to offer the same concerns to elected members, as final approvals and infrastructure decisions will involve the council and external agencies such as UDOT.
