The Police Jury of the Parish of Assumption on Feb. 11 approved multiple $2,000 maintenance allocations for drainage, outfall and levee systems across several wards while tabling items that require additional estimates or permit approvals. The jury also authorized staff to seek design costs for a pump-station project and approved a contract amendment for sewer-plant work.
In roll-call votes and voice motions, jurors approved maintenance allocations that included funds for the Maury Powell Outfall Canal (Ward 4), Bertrandville Drive (Ward 6), the Oakland Lane levy system, Oak Ridge levy system and several others. Where questions arose about whether a request related to drainage or routine road mowing, jurors clarified funding sources and, in at least one case, limited the allocation to a specific drainage code (item identified as 996 outfall).
Several items were tabled or received no action. A requested reallocation for job number 92978 (sweeping an outfall behind Field of Dreams, Ward 7) was tabled pending a cost estimate and invoice reconciliation. Shell Beach Boat Launch sweeping was not approved as a separate parish labor item because the work falls under the Shell Beach restoration project and permits restrict splitting the scope.
On capital projects, jurors authorized the parish president to sign a contract for the Grant Park restroom and pavilion contingent on Facility Planning & Control (FP&C) concurrence, and they approved Amendment No. 3 to the ParisWise sewer improvements contract after staff reported a net credit in the amendment. The jury also directed staff to deliver finalized Shell Beach plans to CPRA for review before advertising for bids.
The jury voted to enter executive session to discuss the status of Singleton v. Assumption Parish Police (a litigation matter) and, on returning to regular session, accepted outside counsel’s recommendation and authorized the parish manager to sign a related affidavit.
The meeting concluded with committee reports on personnel, drainage, engineering grants and solid waste and with several occupational and temporary liquor licenses granted. The jury set a public hearing for March 11, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the Police Jury Meeting Room, 4813 Highway 1, Napoleonville.
