The Colorado Senate unanimously adopted Senate Joint Resolution 11 on Feb. 12, designating a portion of U.S. Highway 34 in Larimer County as the Sergeant John 'Jack' Thurman Memorial Highway.
Mr. Schaffler read SJR11 at length, detailing Sergeant Thurman’s service as a World War II Marine and his civic work in Colorado following the war. The resolution directs the Colorado Department of Transportation to accept gifts and donations for signage and to explore maintenance agreements with the City of Loveland and Larimer County.
Senator Marchman thanked Thurman’s daughter Karen, who was present on the Senate floor, and senators rose to recognize the family. Following recognition, the Senate adopted SJR11 by a roll call of 34 ayes, 0 no, 0 absent and 1 excused.
