Octavia Evans, who works in the Clerk of Counsel's Office and manages Beaufort County's agencies, boards and commissions, urged residents to apply for openings on the county's Stormwater Advisory Board and pointed them to the county website.
Evans said the board "is composed of 6 members and 4 ad hoc members that represent the local municipalities" and meets every other month to "review budgetary requests and open actions" that have stormwater implications. She described the board as a forum where residents can raise flooding and stormwater concerns and said meetings include two public comment periods.
"We have 2 comment periods at every meeting where the public is invited to come and talk about their issues," Evans said. She added that the board looks for volunteers with "either engineering or microbiological backgrounds" when seats become available.
Evans recounted joining the effort about 14 years ago after a friend on the committee encouraged her to get involved. She said she is retired and continues to serve "as a taxpayer, and as a resident of Beaufort County," and encouraged others to give back through service.
Those interested in serving were directed to Beaufort County's website to learn more and submit an application; Evans said the county values citizen participation that helps shape its future. The announcement did not include a deadline or specific vacancy dates.
