The Big Bear Lake City Council announced on Feb. 11 that Hung Dao Nguyen of the law firm Best Best & Krieger is the council’s selection to become the city’s next city attorney. The council interviewed three candidates in a closed session earlier that day and authorized the outgoing city attorney, Steve, to announce the selection in open session; Nguyen was present at the meeting.
Outgoing City Attorney Steve, who has served the city in various legal roles since the 1990s, thanked the council and community for the opportunity to serve and said he will remain available to assist in a semi‑retired capacity. "I've been serving as city attorney since 1997," he said while addressing the council.
In the presentations portion of the meeting, staff introduced Dina Heald as the city’s new director of finance. Staff said Heald began in the role Jan. 5 and brings more than 20 years of municipal finance experience, most recently serving as chief financial officer and city treasurer for Moreno Valley. Her responsibilities will include budget preparation and forecasting, treasury and investment management, financial reporting and auditing, revenue collection, and developing financial policies.
City Clerk Rachel also announced that the newly appointed 17‑member General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, March 10 in Hopefort Hall, launching a three‑year general plan revision process; the city encouraged public participation.
The council offered public thanks to outgoing City Attorney Steve and welcomed the incoming attorney and finance director. Staff will provide transition details and any formal contract or resolution necessary for the appointment at a subsequent meeting.
