Education and Policy Committee member Mister Kaboski told the board Feb. 11 that teachers are piloting several reading-series options and that the high school is trialing AI-based tutoring.
"The district elementary reading committee is in the later stages of selecting a new reading series, and the teachers are piloting a few of those," Kaboski said. "Also, at the high school ... they're piloting the tutoring with AI. I'm really curious to see how that works. They were really excited talking about it."
Kaboski also noted the district's social-media policy is available on the district website and that the committee is looking into an AI policy and usage guidelines. He cited the social-media policy adoption date as May 14, 2025.
Why it matters: curriculum adoptions and classroom technology pilots can change classroom practices and procurement needs; a district AI policy would set boundaries for instructional use and data handling. The board did not adopt any new curriculum or an AI policy at the meeting; members were informed of ongoing pilots and that policy work is underway.
Next steps: the reading committee will continue pilot work and return recommendations when ready; the Education & Policy Committee will continue drafting guidance on AI use for future board consideration.
