The Board of County Commissioners voted to approve a multiyear agreement with PGA Tour, Inc.'s nonprofit arm to continue the county's sponsorship and partnership for the Cognizant Classic.
Todd Bonlaren, chief deputy administrator, summarized the contract and noted staff had worked through final negotiation points the night before the meeting; two technical addenda (audits and availability of future funds) will be provided as amendments later. Emmanuel Perry, Executive Director of the Tourist Development Council, presented the event’s media and economic metrics: distribution across NBC, ESPN and Golf Channel; broadcasts in more than 200 countries and in more than 33 languages; an earned media value the presentation described as $140,000,000 since the prior partnership; and a cited county economic impact of about $30,000,000 supporting roughly 2,900 jobs and 13,000 room nights.
Commissioner Flores asked about disclosure obligations; staff clarified the county was contracting with PGA Tour Inc., the nonprofit arm, which carries specific disclosure implications. Commissioner Flores moved to approve the agreement and the board approved the motion 6–0.
The mayor and commissioners thanked TDC staff and the PGA team for their work and noted the event’s value in promoting Palm Beach County as a golf destination.
