District reports improving vacancy picture; partners filling several special-education roles

The Southfield Board of Education received a staffing update on Feb. 10 that listed vacancies across several schools and described how the district is filling roles.

Ms. Foster (taking minutes / Talent Management presentation) reported position updates across campuses: autism spectrum disorder (ASD) teaching roles, two speech pathologists filled by partner organizations, a 0.5 gym teacher and a Spanish teacher using the MEGS language partner platform, and a community-schools coordinator candidate identified. She noted that some positions are being filled by partner organizations, substitute teachers or retirees and that certain sites (e.g., KLC) reported particularly low vacancy levels.

Trustees asked clarifying questions about the survey tied to recruitment/retention and how families would be reached; Ms. Foster and Superintendent Green said the family survey will solicit satisfaction and intent-to-return data and that results will be provided at the study session.
