Elizabeth Missouri, who told the Ways and Means Committee she has lived in Leominster for about a year and described family experience with disability, was confirmed to the Leominster Disability Commission by the City Council on a unanimous vote.
Missouri spoke during a committee interview that opened the meeting, saying she works in human resources and that her husband has serious breathing issues while her adult daughter has a severe mental-health condition. "It just felt like a nice way for me to give back to something that really is important to me," she said, citing those personal experiences as motivation to serve.
Chairman Dave Cormier and other councilors praised Missouri’s lived experience as an asset for the commission, noting the value of firsthand understanding when the council and staff consider accessibility and services. During the interview, Councilor Brandon Robbins, Councilor Pauline Cormier and others expressed appreciation for her willingness to volunteer her time.
The mayor sent the appointment to the council as C‑40 (term to expire 04/15/2029). The Ways and Means Committee reported a unanimous recommendation after the interview; the full council took a roll-call vote and recorded an 8–0 confirmation.
Missouri’s appointment adds a resident with direct family experience of disability to the commission. The council did not attach conditions; next steps are administrative: swearing-in and placement on commission agendas for orientation and committee assignment.
