Bear River council members said on Feb. 10 that the town has ordered speed-feedback signs designed to flash when vehicles exceed the posted 45 mph threshold. Speaker 4 reported the signs are due Friday and said the devices will be placed near the crossing and near the town entrance; the town plans to collect a year of local speed data for reporting.
"When you when you're going over 45, it'll start blinking at you," Speaker 1 said when describing the speed-feedback device. Speaker 1 also said he has a meeting scheduled with Sheriff Kyle and with the state highway patrol to discuss how enforcement and issuing tickets would be handled, but staff and law enforcement will determine enforcement approaches before any tickets are issued.
Council members also discussed student drop-off locations. Speaker 2 said she spoke with the district logistics staff and proposed moving a drop-off point to reduce students crossing the highway. Multiple council members described observing near-miss incidents during drop-off when drivers failed to stop immediately after the bus's red lights were engaged.
No formal enforcement policy or ordinance change was adopted at the meeting; a meeting with law enforcement was described as the next step.
