City Administrator Steve Barr presented a staff recommendation on Feb. 10 to contract with eVentures (an external booking firm) for one year to secure roughly seven or eight concert dates for Wenzel Plaza, coordinate performer agreements, and assist with logistics.
Councillors raised a series of operational questions: who would manage day‑of logistics (setup, green room, soundboard), whether grant and sponsorship revenue assumptions remain valid, and whether Visit Marshfield and other historical partners were consulted. Barr said staff would provide additional information and said the proposal would be subject to city attorney edits.
Alderman Tompkins moved to table the contract for two weeks and requested a report back from Parks & Recreation, Visit Marshfield and other partners. Tompkins said he wanted to ensure partners could support day‑of staffing and that the council understand grant/sponsorship assumptions before committing. The motion to table passed on roll call.
Next steps: staff will share the former employee’s proposal and return with partner feedback and further details at the next council meeting.
