Planning Commission recommends two small annexations into Florence City

The Florence City Planning Commission on an uncontested voice vote recommended annexation and NC‑15 zoning for two small residential parcels, staff said.

Planning staff described the first request as a ‘‘donut hole’’ parcel at 2511 Ascot Drive in Windsor Forest and noted the owners have built a new single‑family home and now want city services. Staff identified the parcel as tax map number 0122101191 and recommended NC‑15, saying ‘‘most of the lots around it are already in the city limits’’ and the requested zoning aligns with the future land use map.

A second request at 2710 Trotter Road in Grove Park (tax map number 0098401007) was presented as similarly surrounded by properties already inside the city limits; staff recommended the same NC‑15 zoning and noted the site will accommodate a single‑family house.

Commissioners opened and immediately closed public hearings on both items, and motions and seconds were made to approve each application as submitted. Each was approved by voice vote; the chair announced ‘‘the ayes have it.’'

Why it matters: Small annexations like these tidy up municipal boundaries, make provision of city services more consistent across neighborhoods and bring properties into a common zoning regime. Final annexation and zoning enactment require City Council action following the Planning Commission recommendation.

Next steps: Both recommendations will be forwarded to Florence City Council for final consideration.
