The Select Board received a brief update Feb. 10 on the town's draft 2030 road map from Abby Fulham of the Consensus Building Institute, who described the plan's structure, seven high-level goals and next steps for implementation details.
Fulham, a senior associate at the nonprofit Consensus Building Institute, said the road map will include guiding values, goals, strategies and actions and recommended adding implementation details such as key performance indicators, departmental leads and short-, medium- and long-term timelines for each action. "For each of the goals, we could include the key performance indicators and track those over the 5 years," she said.
The board asked clarifying questions about specific language and metrics. John asked whether a stated target of new revenue growth of $15,000,000 referenced an annual target or a multi-year goal; Fulham and other participants interpreted it as a multiyear target and noted they would clarify ambiguous language. Board members were invited to provide written feedback by the end of the week, with a fuller implementation discussion planned for the March 17 workshop. Fulham said the plan aims for adoption in April.
The presentation emphasized balancing sufficient implementation detail to make the plan actionable without overburdening the Select Board with routine edits. Fulham noted there are roughly 43 actions currently in the draft and suggested prioritizing items that sit in the Select Board's court.
Next steps: staff and CBI will refine the implementation language and provide an updated draft; Select Board members may submit comments in writing ahead of the March workshop, and the board will discuss how often and by what process to check in on progress.
