During its agenda review the La Porte Sustainability Commission focused early discussion on electric-vehicle infrastructure and vendor outreach. Speaker 2 said they had forwarded a recent ChargePoint email and would respond with community numbers so the vendor could return pricing and options. "If they respond, I'll just forward it on to the commission, and then we can talk about it at the next meeting," Speaker 2 said.
Members pressed for clarity on goals—whether the city sought a handful of chargers (3–5), a larger deployment (10–20), fast Level 3 chargers for long-range users, or an incremental approach—and noted pricing and vendor recommendations depend on the desired scope, existing wiring and software/maintenance needs. Speaker 1 flagged that unmanaged ChargePoint stations do not display usage data on ChargePoint's public map, which limits the commission's ability to analyze current demand.
The commission agreed Speaker 2 will gather vendor pricing and examples of other cities' requirements for EV-ready parking; commissioners also asked that Tucker, the city engineer/public-works contact, be consulted to determine which city department would manage chargers and maintenance.
The item remains a research and outreach task; commissioners expect vendor replies and staff input before the March 24 meeting.
