Commission authorizes mayor to negotiate sale of old jail property; names tax attorney and other appointments

Monroe County commissioners moved to amend a pending item to give Mayor Mitch Ingram permission to negotiate the sale of the county27s old jail property, specifying the authorization applies only to the old jail and not the annex.

During the discussion a commissioner asked whether the sheriff was comfortable with negotiating the sale and the sheriff indicated he was. Commissioners said any proposals about the annex would be workshopped with the sheriff involved.

The commission also considered and advanced an appointment: Mona Hall (as stated) nominated Tyler Lease to serve as attorney handling delinquent tax matters. Commissioners discussed the fee structure (the "going rate" was referenced as 10%) and staff reported that Lease had set a tax sale for February 2025 covering tax years 2013–2018; commissioners noted a 10-year lapse rule that must be weighed.

Finally, the commission listed and moved to confirm several appointments to county roles, naming Tommy Jones (Sheriff), Jack Keener, Chief Dale Jailer, Talina Shaw (Lieutenant), Theresa Clay (Jailer) and Delaine Davis (citizen). Motions and seconds were recorded and the chair requested roll call to finalize appointments.
