Weld County commissioners approved Contract ID 10173 on Dec. 22 to renew community service funding and the county’s contract with NOCO Humane for animal control services.
Matt Turner of the sheriff’s office told the board NOCO Humane assumed operation of the county’s animal shelter years ago and "they've changed their operation completely." Turner said NOCO Humane informed the county about a requested 10% increase in four fee categories and that the county received written notice about two weeks before the meeting. "It is just a 10% increase," Turner said.
Turner and commissioners emphasized the importance of maintaining the shelter partnership so animal control officers can continue to place animals. He also noted the person who ordinarily signs the contract (Judy) was out of the country and would sign after returning on Dec. 29, meaning county leaders would sign in the interim.
Commissioner Scott James moved approval and Commissioner Kevin Ross seconded; the board approved the contract by voice vote. The transcript contains no detailed roll‑call of individual board votes for this item.
The contract renewal authorizes continued county payments to NOCO Humane and allows the shelter to adjust its fees by the stated 10%; the transcript did not include the contract’s exact funding line items, contract term dates, or total dollar amounts.
