TUMWATER, Wash. — City staff told the General Government Committee on Feb. 11 that the 2026 preliminary docket of comprehensive plan text amendments is city‑sponsored and part of the approved long‑range planning work plan.
The proposed amendments cover the economic development chapter, the parks/recreation/open space chapter and a joint update with Thurston County. Staff said the annual amendment process is governed by the Growth Management Act and that because the items were included in the approved work plan, the committee could place the preliminary docket on the Feb. 17 city council consent calendar.
A committee member asked whether the items must go on consent; staff said the committee could request consideration instead, but staff normally places work‑plan items on consent. The committee moved, seconded and approved placing the docket on the Feb. 17 consent calendar.
Next steps: staff will return to council in the winter with adoption materials following the public review process required for comp plan amendments.
