Committee asks staff to gather consultant options for jail medical contract RFP

Committee members discussed the county's upcoming jail medical contract, now scheduled for bid, and directed staff to gather consultant options to assist with writing the RFP and administering the bidding process.

Jason (public-safety staff) said the current medical contract—he estimated roughly $1.2 million this year—is up for bid and that he has been referred to a consultant who prepares RFPs, helps run bids and performs billing reviews. Committee members said a consultant can help include contract provisions the county previously lacked (for example, reimbursement for missed nursing hours). Jason said a past engagement for RFP preparation was about $25,000 and that he would contact the consultant for updated costs and references, then distribute that information to committee members (via Amanda) and return next month with formal recommendations. Tom Templeton moved to authorize Jason to collect contractual information; Jason agreed to return with written options rather than to approve any contract at this meeting.

No contract award was made at the meeting; staff will report back to the committee with consultant references and cost estimates.
