Counselors outline AP, College Credit Plus differences and college‑credit considerations

Counselors from Revere High School gave the board a side‑by‑side look at Advanced Placement (AP) and College Credit Plus (CCP) and answered trustees’ questions about rigor, transferability and accommodations.

They said AP typically runs a 36‑week course culminating in an exam that many colleges use to award credit, while CCP/dual‑enrollment classes run roughly 16–18 weeks and are often delivered online by partner institutions. “AP is gonna take you deeper and richer almost,” one counselor summarized, while CCP can be a quicker path to college credit and is growing in popularity among Revere students.

Counselors advised families to check receiving institutions’ transfer policies (tools such as Transferology and college websites were recommended) because policies differ widely; some schools accept many dual‑enrollment credits while others limit credit or set maximums. The team also explained how accommodations work: AP testing accommodations are requested through the College Board’s SSD process (district staff collect IEP/504 documentation); CCP accommodations are handled through the college that provides the course, so families may need to complete paperwork with that institution.

On costs, the treasurer reported district CCP charges are deducted through state foundation payments and direct institution invoices, and he gave an aggregated district figure for CCP tuition and related costs of $215,006.18 (textbook costs not specified). Counselors said the district pays CCP tuition for students unless a student withdraws past the deadline or fails the course.
