The Coppell City Council recognized Fire Chief Kevin Richardson on Feb. 10 as he prepares to retire after a 33‑year career, and State Representative Cassandra Garcia Hernandez attended to present a Texas House Resolution and a flag that had flown over the Texas State Capitol.
Representative Garcia Hernandez detailed Richardson’s career milestones: he began his fire career in 1988, joined the Coppell Fire Department in 1992, and was appointed fire chief in May 2006. She noted the department’s Insurance Services Office Class 1 public protection classification and called Richardson’s sustained leadership and investments in emergency response infrastructure a legacy for Coppell and the region.
Mayor Wes Mays and multiple councilmembers praised Richardson’s operational leadership, mentorship and community engagement, and announced a retirement celebration scheduled for Feb. 24 at Life Safety Park. Chief Richardson thanked the council, staff and the community, reflected on mentors and the department’s culture, and said he feels the city’s leadership is in good hands.
No council action was required; the event served as an official recognition and community sendoff.
