An unidentified reporter said dash-cam video captured a red semi plowing into several vehicles on the westbound 10 Freeway near Ontario just after 1 p.m. yesterday, in a crash that killed three people and sent four others to local hospitals.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) told the Los Angeles Times that the driver of the big rig is a 21-year-old man who is now under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. “This is exclusive dash cam video, that is now the subject of several law enforcement investigations,” the reporter said.
According to the report, the collision involved four semi-trailer trucks and four passenger vehicles; one passenger vehicle exploded in flames. The crash occurred just east of the 15th Freeway and closed all westbound lanes of the 10 for more than 12 hours, creating widespread gridlock as the evening commute began.
Thousands of drivers were trapped in the backup, and the reporter noted the crash happened near Ontario Airport, likely delaying people trying to reach flights.
The crash is now the subject of multiple law enforcement investigations, the reporter said. Authorities have not provided additional identifying details about the victims or a precise timeline for reopening all lanes.
