Sherry Smith, speaking for the Historic Morgan Cabin Association, described five decades of volunteer maintenance at the Morgan Cabin and asked the board for financial assistance to support upcoming needs.
Smith said volunteers have completed multiple recent projects — including cedar guttering, a solar audio kiosk, exterior sealing in 2025 and recurring termite inspections — but that the access road to the Cool Spring Church Cemetery requires new gravel to ensure safe public access. She requested funding for an interpretive conservation-trust sign about pioneer life at the cabin and help to maintain the cabin and grounds.
Smith described past community partnerships that built the original access road (volunteer excavation and material donations), noted the Landmarks Commission’s work to identify and protect graves in the Cool Spring Church Cemetery, and asked commissioners to consider in-kind support if county funding is not available. A commissioner offered to follow up about hauling stone.
Board members thanked Smith and acknowledged the volunteer effort that has preserved the site for years. The item was presented during the public-comment portion of the meeting; no formal county appropriation was recorded during this session.
