Greenfield — The City Council on March 26 welcomed and administered the oath to Nancy Utterback, the city’s newly hired EMS coordinator, highlighting her long career in emergency medical services and training.
Fire‑department representatives told the council Utterback became an EMT in 1985, completed paramedic school in 1986 and later worked for Peninsula Medics and AMR, retiring from ambulance service in 2017. Staff said combining Utterback’s field and instructional experience yields about 39 years of EMS work when teaching and response are counted. "That is the wealth of knowledge that we now have working with our fire department," a presenter said.
Utterback took the oath and told council she was grateful for the opportunity to serve Greenfield, noting family ties and local roots. Council thanked Utterback and asked her to help lead EMS training and program development in coordination with the department.
Why it matters: City staff had budgeted and approved an EMS coordinator position to enhance emergency medical response, training and coordination between fire personnel, schools and community providers.
What’s next: Utterback has begun work on assigned tasks and will report to the fire chief and council as projects progress.
