Elia Zavala, contracts and grants analyst with the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority, presented proposed adjustments to Tri Cities disposal rates tied to a contractual CPI increase and pass-through costs for organics processing and AB 939 diversion programs. She said the contractual CPI adjustment for the service portion of Tri Cities' fee is 5.3% and that the Authority's pass-through adjustments for processing added to customer bills will produce total increases in the 4–5% range for typical residential accounts.
Council reviewed several example container sizes and their proposed costs in presentations staff had included in the meeting packet. After brief comments and thanks to the public for waiting to present, the council moved, seconded and approved a resolution adopting the updated rates for FY23–24.
A public commenter asked about replacing damaged curbside carts; staff advised residents to contact Tri Cities Disposal for cart replacement.
