Wheat Ridge — The Wheat Ridge City Council on Feb. 9 appointed Janice Hoppe to fill the vacant city clerk position for the term ending Nov. 8, 2027, and she was sworn into office during the meeting.
Councilor Mike Okada introduced the appointment, citing Wheat Ridge City Charter section 3.11, which authorizes council appointment to fill clerk or treasurer vacancies. Okada noted that the position was advertised and that one qualified application was received and interviewed at the Feb. 2 study session.
Councilor O'Connor moved to appoint Hoppe and the motion was seconded. Several councilors praised Hoppe’s experience as a former council member and endorsed her qualifications. After an 8–0 vote in favor, Hoppe took the oath of office and pledged to support the U.S. Constitution, Colorado law and the city charter and ordinances.
What’s next: Hoppe will serve through Nov. 8, 2027, completing the term; councilors and staff said they expect a smooth transition.
