The Rolling Hills Estates City Council on Feb. 10 received an update on the city’s coyote management program. Staff reminded council that the city contracts LA County Weights & Measures on a pay‑as‑you‑go basis (not to exceed $25,000 annually) for wildlife mitigation services.
Weights & Measures had curtailed some services after the retirement of a staff member, but staff said county personnel have recently been on city properties conducting surveys and may be prepared to resume mitigation services. Because of that activity, staff recommended holding off on initiating a separate professional service agreement with a private trapper until county staff report back on their findings and their capacity to resume field operations.
Council directed staff to request a status update from LA County Weights & Measures and to invite county staff to the next council meeting to explain what services they can or will resume; staff said the county committed to attend the next meeting to provide that update.
