Macon‑Bibb marks Rosa Parks Square dedication as Black History Month observances begin

Hosts on the Make It Macon podcast marked the start of Black History Month by describing the recent dedication of Rosa Parks Square, an effort the show said has been roughly two decades in the making.

The hosts said the Feb. 4 celebration included choir and symphony performances and remarks from Andrea Cook, Mayor Miller and Alex Morrison of the Urban Development Authority. Because of rain, much of the ceremony moved indoors to the commission chambers at City Hall, but hosts said the change did not diminish turnout or the emotion of the event.

The hosts credited Friends of Rosa Parks Square, the Urban Development Authority, Stafford Builders and HCORE for roles in planning and construction, and they encouraged listeners to use the new park. One line shared from Andrea Cook at the event was: “Progress does not always happen under clear skies,” which hosts highlighted as emblematic of the day.
