During the Jan. 12 meeting, Elizabeth Crow of the City of Boulder Housing and Human Services gave a staff update: the city is accepting boards-and-commissions applications through Jan. 25 and the HRC should expect a vacancy as Commissioner Emily plans to depart in the near term.
Crow detailed three human relations fund–supported Martin Luther King Jr. Day events: Jan. 18 (Second Baptist Church event to be held at the Jewish Community Center; time TBA), Jan. 19 (Modus Theater event at the Derry Arts Center), and Jan. 24 (Ilale Hill Organization's "Community Action, Celebrate Diversity and champion equity" at Congregation Har HaShem; time TBA). She said staff can provide outreach help, share flyers, and coordinate which commissioners might attend community events to elevate HRC visibility.
Crow also noted work plan items that intersect with staff priorities, including tracking discrimination and failure‑to‑pay‑wages claims and exploring options with the city attorney's office to strengthen the human rights ordinance. She invited commissioners to request staff support and suggested that staff and commissioners coordinate between meetings to identify opportunities for public engagement.
