Suamico planners keep site‑plan design review language, clarify administrative role

The Village of Suamico planning group agreed to keep a streamlined reference to the site‑plan design review ordinance and discussed who should carry out routine reviews.

Speaker 2 and other participants said residents have complained about the appearance of some recent projects — Speaker 2 cited apartments on East Deerfield — but emphasized those projects complied with the village code and likely could not be altered through design review. Speaker 1 noted past disagreements over the design of a fire station but did not press for new procedural steps.

Speaker 6 told the group the committee that previously handled some design‑review authority no longer exists and recommended the village amend code language so responsibilities rest with the zoning administrator unless an item requires escalation to the board. "We would just not be delegating it to the committee anymore. You would just be in your role as the zoning administrator," Speaker 6 said.

After discussion, Speaker 1 proposed striking excess language and reading the item as the village enforcing the site‑plan design review ordinance; Speaker 5 emphasized protecting natural resources and said the village has used site plans to avoid impacts on environmentally sensitive areas. No board member objected to keeping the tightened language, and the group moved on to other plan sections.
