At the Feb. 9 meeting the board policy committee chair reported that the committee met in January to review State Board of Education recommended revisions and will forward several policies for full board approval on the Feb. 9 work consent agenda. Policies named by number included updates on parental involvement (Policy 1310/4200), technology and education program links (Policy 3220), recruitment/selection language (Policy 6340 and 7100) and the family and medical leave policy (Policy 7520).
The report noted the addition of language directing the superintendent to pursue business relationships and grant opportunities to acquire technical resources and a second paragraph ensuring resources are accessible and affordable. Doctor Shaver raised concerns about verbiage in recruitment policy; the policy text was revised to require criminal-history and offender-registry checks for contractors acting as drivers under the cited general statute.
Human Resources Director Mr. Rogers explained the FMLA change: beginning 07/01/2026, the district will use a rolling 12-month period measured forward from the employee’s first FMLA leave date. Rogers said staff will have adequate time to notify employees in advance of the change.
These policy revisions will be placed on the board’s work consent agenda for action; the committee’s report was informational at this meeting.
