Tourism and economic development group reports small-business and events wins to commissioners

A delegation presented a year-in-review and economic development plan to the Sherman County Board of Commissioners, outlining small-business assistance, tourism marketing and upcoming events intended to draw visitors downtown.

Speaker 7, an unidentified presenter, told the board the organization helped recruit or finance several local businesses last year, citing a new veterinarian (Rissa Walkinshaw), expansion support for Advance Auto Body, startup help for Mason Hitchins and assistance to Mason Dental. The presenter said the county helped broker operational loans to Stacer Enterprises and support relocation plans for M and M Supply from Edson to Goodland.

"We were able to help advance auto body, Jason and Marcy with their expansion," Speaker 7 said, and listed other small-business support actions the group provided.

Speaker 7 also said the group is working with colleges to host a regional golf qualifier in April that would bring about 40–50 players and multiple college teams, and that they intend to host two collegiate shooting events and other weekend tournaments to increase overnight stays.
