New York State Senate approves a slate of bills; calendar votes include urban development, education and other measures

The New York State Senate convened for a floor session and approved a series of bills on the calendar, including the New York Urban Development Corporation Act. The chamber completed multiple roll calls, announced vote tallies and recorded both unanimous and divided votes before adjourning until Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m.

Senate clerks read the last sections of a series of bills and called the roll. Calendar No. 119 (Senate print 1336, by Senator Parker), captioned as an enactment of the New York Urban Development Corporation Act, passed after a roll call in which the clerk announced 59 ayes. Other measures taken up and announced as passed included bills enacting changes to the public authorities law (Senate print 2324, by Senator Comer) and amendments to the administrative code of the City of New York (Senate print 4236, by Senator Krueger), among others.

Some votes recorded explicit opposition. Calendar No. 173 (Senate print 4434, by Senator Scoopis), described as an enactment related to the education law, produced a roll‑call result in which the clerk listed 19 senators voting "nay" by name; the clerk nevertheless announced the bill as passed. Other items on the calendar showed vote tallies ranging from near‑unanimous to split results (examples in the record: 59 ayes; 58 ayes/1 nay; 54 ayes with multiple nays listed).

The session also included routine procedure: a rules committee report was received and filed directing several senate prints to third reading, committee assignments were handed up for the majority conference and the journal of the prior day was read and approved.

The Senate adjourned following completion of the day's calendar and set its next convening for Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m.
