Cassandra Wright, president of the Cascade Park Community Fund, told Valley County commissioners on Feb. 9 that the group seeks to use the Holly County Fairgrounds the weekend of July 4 for a combined motorcycle rodeo and bull‑riding event and will increase liability coverage to meet the county’s special‑event requirements.
Wright said the group has held a similar event at a private venue in Smiths Ferry for four years and raised between $9,000 and $14,000 annually. The proposed event would involve the Devil’s Disciples Motorcycle Club and bull‑riding by Toby Olson; Wright said organizers can increase the insurance to a $2,000,000 special‑event policy if required.
Commissioners and staff expressed concerns about previous motorcycle events that damaged the grounds and asked Wright to consult with the fair board and county facilities director, Terry Kennedah, and to coordinate with the sheriff’s department and vendors (including accessible restrooms) before the board would consider final approval. The fair board was scheduled to meet Feb. 18; staff said the request should return to the board after fair‑board and facilities review.
"It'll be Bikers and Bulls, is what it is — Bikers and Bulls Rodeo," Wright said, describing the planned combination of motorcycle events and bull riding.
Next steps: organizers were asked to meet with the fair board and facilities director, confirm insurance and accessibility arrangements, and return with formal application materials for county approval.
