Kennesaw police report small drops in many January crime categories; dispatch calls at 693

The Kennesaw police chief told the council that January 2026 saw an overall reduction in reportable crime compared with the same period last year and highlighted specific category changes. The chief reported drug and narcotics offenses increased by 4 incidents year-over-year while intimidation cases dropped by 7; larceny reports declined by 5 and vandalism by 4. The department recorded 693 dispatch calls for service, reported approximately 86 arrests and listed 98 auto accidents with seven involving injury. The chief also noted hit-and-run incidents numbered 11 and that there were no hit-and-run injuries recorded in the month.

Councilors thanked the chief and asked for an update on two officers recognized for community service connected to a past child fatality; the chief said the officers had been nominated for an award and one could not attend because he is on National Guard duty. The work session did not include policy action on the statistics; the figures were provided for informational purposes.
