An unidentified county staff member announced that Greene County is planning a "Veteran Stand Down," a resource fair for veterans, on May 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Point warehouse.
The organizer said the event is intended to help homeless and needy veterans but has been opened to all veterans. "The date for the event is May 2, and that's from 9 to 1PM," the speaker said, adding that vendors from the VA, state and local resources will provide services including VA enrollment and on-site ID cards.
The event will offer breakfast and lunch and short-service resources in a single location. A planning meeting with the VA and other stakeholders will be held Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. at the veteran center; the organizer said a flyer with details will be circulated to county staff.
No preregistration is required, the organizer said: "So they do not need to pre register." County staff asked members interested in the planning meeting to attend and said the county had secured the Point warehouse as the venue.
Officials did not specify staffing or budget details for the event in the meeting record. The county said it would share a flyer with additional logistics and contact information for people seeking more information.
