Beaufort County announced appointments of 15 residents to the county’s 2026 Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC), citing population growth and increased infrastructure pressure.
The bulletin says the committee’s members represent each of the county’s 11 council districts and the four municipalities — City of Beaufort, Town of Port Royal (transcript: 'Town Of Fort Royal'), Town of Bluffton and Town of Hilton Head Island. At its first meeting, the TAC selected Lisa Sulka (appointee from the Town of Bluffton) as chair, Glenn Stanford (Town of Hilton Head Island appointee) as vice chair, and Joy Ko (District 4 appointee) as secretary.
County council chair Alice Howard emphasized the committee’s importance. An unidentified speaker said, “It’s gonna be a busy schedule, because they have to meet and decide what the priorities are, what kind of specific projects they wanna do, and also where these projects are gonna be.” The bulletin adds the TAC will work with an engineering firm the county has hired to develop cost estimates and that the committee is expected to recommend projects for a referendum this fall.
The announcement did not include dollar amounts for potential projects or a precise referendum date; it described the TAC as a community‑led effort to prioritize transportation investments.
