Madisonville — The Monroe County Board of Commissioners on May 28 approved a slate of routine finance and administrative resolutions, including acceptance of the county’s audited annual financial report and several budget amendments and applications for grant funding.
Commissioners voted to accept the annual financial report as audited by the State of Tennessee Controller’s Office; county officials noted the full audit is available on the controller’s website. The board approved a general-fund amendment to accept $9,750 in sponsorship revenue for the upcoming Monroe County Rodeo and a $500 insurance recovery for a damaged sheriff’s office vehicle.
The board authorized the emergency management agency (EMA) to accept Tennessee Risk Management grant funds totaling $9,913.50 for safety items and approved a request to pull $11,540.15 from the general-fund balance for an employee payout in the sheriff’s office. A $300 intra-departmental move in Solid Waste (from part-time to overtime) was approved; commissioners also authorized Solid Waste to apply to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation for equipment to support waste reduction and recycling.
The board approved a resolution allowing the Monroe County EMS to apply to the Tennessee Department of Health for ventilation-therapy equipment to improve patient transport; commissioners also declared several county vehicles as surplus for sale on GovDeals after asking about the operability of a 23,000-mile vehicle that had been discussed.
The Board of Education budget amendments were approved, and the board delegated authority to the Monroe County Industrial Development Board to negotiate or waive payments in lieu of taxes, citing Tennessee Code 7-53-305. One late agenda item (resolution O528-09) prompted debate about whether it had been properly submitted; the chair said it should have been added at the meeting start and the board did not add it during this session.
Most routine resolutions were moved, seconded and adopted on roll call; the transcript records multiple "Aye" responses although full named tallies were not recorded for every item in the audio record.
