Planning commission recommends rezoning of about 13.74 acres south of Avenida Los Presidentes

The City of Laredo planning commission on Monday recommended that city council approve a rezoning of approximately 13.74 acres south of Avenida Los Presidentes and east of Brownwood Street from R‑1 single‑family to R‑1A.

City staff described the parcel’s location, presented an aerial and zoning maps and said staff supports the change. The commission opened the public hearing and asked for comments; no members of the public stepped forward. “Hearing no further comments, I'd like to declare the public meeting…hearing closed,” the chair said.

A commissioner then moved to close the public hearing and go with the staff recommendation; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The planning commission’s action is a recommendation to the city council, which will make the final decision on the ordinance.

The record presented to the commission indicated the request was to change zoning on the attached meets‑and‑bounds exhibit from R‑1 to R‑1A and that staff’s recommendation was to continue and forward the recommendation to council. No stipulations or conditions were offered during the commission’s discussion.

The matter will next appear before the City Council for a final vote.
