Senate Confirms Jamie Huizenga to South Dakota Lottery Commission

The South Dakota Senate confirmed Jamie Huizenga of Pierre to the South Dakota Lottery Commission on Feb. 4, 2026. Senators praised Huizenga’s prior service on the commission and his local civic involvement during brief floor remarks before a roll-call vote that yielded 34 yeas and one excused.

Senator Jim Melhoff, speaking in support, said Huizenga has been a Pierre resident for 31 years, graduated from Northern State University with a degree in business administration, served in the South Dakota National Guard from 1986 to 1992 and worked as a crop and farm insurance agent at the Nagle Agency since 1995. Melhoff noted Huizenga’s prior Lottery Commission service from 2018 to 2024 and his participation with local economic and civic groups.

With those endorsements, the Senate voted by roll call to advise and consent. The president declared the appointment confirmed after the clerk reported 34 yeas with one senator excused.

The appointment will take effect according to statute governing commission terms and vacancies; no additional conditions or amendments were recorded on the Senate floor.
