Moraine commission certifies 27-name firefighter entry list

The Moraine Merit System Commission voted to certify a full-time firefighter entry-level candidate list that contains 27 names. Speaker 4 presented the list and noted candidates who are paramedics were highlighted because that qualification reduces the citys training costs.

The commission formally certified the list after Speaker 4 moved to approve it and Speaker 3 seconded the motion. Speaker 1 announced there were no objections to the minutes earlier in the meeting; the certification motion was then put to a vote and approved.

Commissioners did not debate specific rankings during the public portion of the meeting. Staff said the paramedic designation lowers onboarding costs by avoiding some city-funded training; no dollar figures for expected savings were given at the meeting.

The commission did not set a specific hire date for any candidate; staff will proceed with next steps in the hiring process consistent with existing civil service procedures and return to the commission if additional formal action is required.
