The committee reviewed routine marina branding and programming items, discussing harbor flag replacement schedules, banner designs and potential summer events including tall ships and a poker race.
Members raised concerns about large flags wearing quickly in high winds and discussed downsizing or rotating multiple flags to extend service life. Staff said flags typically go up around Memorial Day and come down a few days after Veterans Day; members suggested coordinating sponsorships (Exchange Club, veterans groups or service organizations) to help cover replacement costs and offered volunteer support to help raise and lower flags.
On banners, staff said a downtown designer will provide several PDF design options, which staff will distribute by email for collective review. For events, committee members discussed bringing tall ships back this year and coordinating with the chamber and Thunder Bay Arts to align activities with the city's 250th-anniversary calendar and other festivals in August.
Members asked staff to circulate banner mock-ups and return with proposals for flag maintenance, rotation and volunteer involvement so the committee can finalize plans before the boating season.
