During the work session Speaker 6 raised a personnel matter, saying she submitted a letter about back pay stemming from an earlier payroll error and that an attorney had reviewed the matter.
"I gave a letter to Ryan concerning the back pay that was an error way back when," Speaker 6 said, asking the commission to consider covering two years of back pay and to address the matter at the next meeting. She referenced an attorney-general opinion from 2013 in relation to limitations and said she would move forward but wanted the commission to review the last two years and correct base pay amounts if required.
Commission discussion also touched on a draft resolution prepared by Jason following edits from Chad Robertson concerning starting pay for the sheriff's position. Speakers referred to the starting pay figure as "$70" in discussion and later as about "$70,000" when describing base pay adjustments. Commissioners asked for the exact dollar amounts and for all required signatures on the form before placing the resolution on the agenda.
Speaker 6 said the two-year back-pay calculation would require a budget correction and that some of the cost would not come from general funds, asking staff to determine exact figures for the commission before action. No formal vote was recorded during the session; the item is scheduled for further action at a future meeting.
